damn satin

this dress is based on Butterick B5211, i saw this matte satin at Spotlight on sale, i had to have it, knowing slippery fabric is so hard to work with....

And yap, it's a disaster, I unpick the hem 3 times, i tried blind hem, rolled hem, hand stitch, no matter what i do, it just looked wrong!! look:

if i unpick it yet again, i'm gonna ruin the fabric or ended up with a dress to short. at the end (and out of frustration) i decided to chop it, string a skinny elastic through it so that i can hide the funny hem. then i got this:

i made a rose brooch out of the scrap, i'm happy now :)

new toy - Lubitel 166

finally got this! i've been eyeing on this camera for almost a year, it's a bit unusual for me to be able to hold off not buying something i really want for that long. Basically it's cos of the price in Perth, knowing the retail price in HK Lomo shop and the extra's that come with it, i just can't justify buying just the camera for AU$580. I've also been thinking whether i should get the real deal on eBay for a lot less, but then i really like the new features Lomo put in this one...

I spent 2 nights reading the manual and tips online before i load the first roll of 120mm, and so far i've only shot 6 images. shooting analog is so exciting, and it made me think twice before taking a picture. i can't wait to finish this roll and try to shoot 35mm with it!

the image in the viewfinder is reversed, it's still driving me crazy :P

another dress

I got this pattern from BurdaStyle, again. I printed this months ago and finally got around to make it.

This is a little too small for me, i unpicked it couple of times, tried my best to take it out. finally it fits! :) i’ve also added ruffles cos it’s too short, my bad – i realised i forgot to add length AFTER i cut everything.

I also had to hand sew the ruffles to the neckline so it stays flat, the gathered fabric is too thick. If i’m going to make another one (very likely!!), i’ll go with single layer.

I learnt a lot in making this dress, the next one will be better :)

wardrobe refashion

happy new year everyone - if anyone :)

I haven't blogged since May 09, i can't believe time has flown by so quickly. 2009 was overall a great year, I'm so looking forward to 2010!

I don't do new year resolutions anymore, but I'm hoping to blog and craft more often, at least more than 2009. I don't know what made me so busy in 2009, I didn't do much!!!

Anyway, same as last year, I'm still on holiday so I have the luxury (time!) to sew, I couldn't stop as soon as i started!! So far I've made a dress, "refashioned" a dress and a tee, I'm going to make another dress and a tulip skirt (or two!)

Below is the dress I made, I would like to make another one with a longer bodice, it's too small! that's why I added the lace trim, it's still too low :(

I used the free Burda pattern, this is very easy to make.

And this is the dress I recycled, I've done it once 2 years ago! but i haven't worn it the second time :P it's much better this time :)

I'll update more often, I'm planning to do a tutorial for the refashioned tee :)

It's too dark, it actually has a little bit more details on it, LOL!

soon.

back

Mr Ball Ball Chan - 6 months

I'm back from my short holiday, a trip back home on my own, except it poured on the next day i arrived (it's a Saturday for god's sake) and the sudden outbreak of swine flu, everything else's great. Finally met the cutest thing on earth, Ball Ball - my mum's little prince, a Pekingnese. the food and shopping are irresistible and irreplaceable, Hong Kong is always the best - if you could put up with the crowd, especially those Chinese tourists from the mainland, they're not the most civilised bunch of tourists, their behaviours are rather shocking.

Apart from the usual shoes, clothes, mobile phone, japanese mags, skin care and makeup restock. I bought a new wide angle lens, filter, and a remote control for my camera, i loooove the new lens's 104 degree view. i'm quite happy with the combo and i don't think i will be buying any more new lenses until i mastered these two. This is an expensive hobby!!

I've also developed 6 lomo rolls, will be uploading them to flickr soon...

Unwrapped

setting up....

I haven't done any markets for years, today i was totally overwhelmed! It's so busy, people actually started buying while i was setting up, and i've got tons of compliments, it's very nice! The only thing is that I was facing the sun, the umbrella is totally useless. i was boiling! A few of my favourite people came to say hi, some colleagues at work came with their partners, I'd like to thank them for coming and supporting me.

I must admit I wasn't very well prepared, I worked til 3am this morning but still I couldn't finish everything i was working on, and i just found out i ran out of big paper bags last night! Anyway, sales is better than expected, also I'm glad that the majority of people know that my fabrics are different, hence the higher price.

There's just one rude person, this woman picked up one of my clutches and criticized it, she said to her friends that she could get something exactly the same from Thailand for less than $5, and threw it back on to my table. That's really rude. I can not buy a fat quarter (50cm squares) of the fabrics i used for $5! GRRRR!

Apart from that, I enjoyed the day very much. I haven't got a chance to check out the other stalls, i just had a quick walk around, and the only thing i bought was a pair of gorgeous earrings from Claire Brooks - the stall behind me!! I've been eyeing on those earrings since they set up! LOL! I also adore a dress from Calluna, they're next to us. but they don't have my size :( never mind, i [tried to] ban myself from shopping due to some big expenses planned at the end of the year. hopefully i'll see them there next year, or somewhere else soon :)
